What an affiliate link is
Some of the products we mention are linked through affiliate programs. If you click one and buy something, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid otherwise.
This disclosure is made in accordance with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's endorsement guidelines. Every affiliate link on this site is marked at the point of the link, not buried down here.

Products we own
Some things we recommend are ours, which is a stronger interest than an affiliate commission and gets labelled more plainly, not less:
- Herb & Sprout on Etsy — our own shop. Garden and plant apparel, printed on demand and shipped from Florida.
- Urban Sprout Farms growing guides — our own digital guides, sold through Stan Store.
Where one of ours appears alongside someone else's product, we say which is which on the page itself, and we still list the drawbacks of our own. If a cheaper option beats ours, that is what the page will tell you.
The rules we hold ourselves to
- We list drawbacks on every product. If a page has no criticism on it, do not trust the page.
- We will tell you when the cheaper option or the thing you already own is the better call.
- Commission rate never determines ranking or recommendation order.
- We do not invent hands-on experience. If we have not grown with something, the page says what it is based on instead.
